In 2009, at my birthday 46th, I have an encounter with my first shakuhachi flute.
This was the outcome of a search that started with an undeniable impulse after listening shakuhachi recorded music for some months. One day at home, listening a Honkyoku piece named "Daha" played by Alcvin Ramos, my 18 years old son Agustin opened the pandora box... "finnaly "Papi, this IS really beautiful music, it is so full of soul and make you vibrate, why do not you drop your saxophon and get into learning this music instead?". So I did.
A couple of months after my sons statement, I travel to Madrid with my friend Luis to visit my first teacher Antonio Olias. He has brought my first shakuhachi from Japan just for this date. I have not met Antonio before, only a few phone conversation and emails during his last learning tour in Japan in January.
8th of March 2009, this is when everything started.
My life have changed more than I have ever thought it would. My life would be incomplete without havind the daily joy or breathing and meditate through my shakuhachi music. Just a very few times in my life I had the feeling that something was "for the rest of my life", this is one of them.
In this space, I would like to summarize my experience and the path I have been through on learning to breath and craft shakuhachis until today, one year after falling in love with this aparently simple instrument and a Zen Monks Meditation music expression called Honkyoku.
I hope you enjoy the path or a least enojoy the fact that I enojoy it. Thanks for being there.
